COACH HENTGES

Chris Hentges is beginning his 16th year at Helias. He is entering his 3nd year as head football Coach. Chris teaches theology to Juniors and Seniors. He is a 1984 graduate of Helias where he was an All-American Running back. He played football and golf for Iowa State University where he received his undergraduate degree. He completed his masters in Educational Administration from the University of Missouri in 1995. Chris and Jennifer have been married for 16 years and they have 4 children (Hillary 13, Hale 11, Holly 6, Hannah 1). His father Ray was the head football coach of the Crusaders for 33 years.

COACH BALK

Coach Balk
joined Helias as a teacher and a coach in 2003. In his
first 3 years of coaching, Coach Balk, was the receivers coach and offensive
coordinator for the Junior Varsity team for the 2003-2005 seasons. Coach Balk is excited to coach quarterbacks entering his 5th year of coaching.
He teaches
Website Design, Yearbook, Art I, and Photography. Balk, former
option QB, was a 2-way starter on two state championship teams in 1993 and 1994. Additionally, Coach is married to Shauna and has 2 chlidren, Alex and Blair.

MEET
COACH BRAD HAKE

Coach Brad Hake is in his 16th year of coaching football at Helias High School. He has been a teacher at Helias since 1994. Coach Hake is head of the Math Department. As head coach of the freshmen football team in which the Crusaders have enjoyed a great deal of success. With an emphasis on fundamentals, playing hard every snap, and teamwork, the freshmen have learned the basics for future success in the Helias football program. Coach Hake has moved up to be the varsity recievers coach, the head JV coach, and the offensive coordinator.
Coach Hake is a 1988 graduate of Helias High School. He was an All-State offensive linemen and earned the Father Helias Award for the class of 1988. He is married to Christy (Rackers) and has 3 children.

COACH DANNY ARMSTRONG
 |
Coach Armstrong is in his second year as coach at Helias where he works with the JV offensive line and assist with the varsity line. Immediately upon graduation from Troy University, Armstrong coached 2 years in Georgia and 4 years in Alabama, all with the offensive and defensive line. Coach is in his fourth year of teaching math at Helias.

COACH PHIL PITTS
 |
Coach Phil Pitts is beginning his 3rd year as a member of the Helias Football Coaching Staff. He was an Assistant Line Coach/JV Defensive Coordinator his first year and the Varsity Assistant Head Coach/Defensive Coordinator/D Line Coach the last two years. Coach Pitts is a 2000 graduate of Helias, where he was a two-time all-state lineman, and a 2005 graduate of the University of Missouri, where he was a four-year letterman as a Defensive Lineman for the Tigers. Coach Pitts teaches Algebra I at Helias and lives in Jefferson City with his wife, Lindsey.

COACH ANDREW PITTS

Coach graduated from Helias in 2002. From there he went on to play football and baseball at Truman State University in Kirksville, MO. He was a four-time Honorable Mention Academic All-Conference in football and a three-time Honorable Mention Academic All-Conference in Baseball while at Truman. Pitts graduated Cum Lauda with a B.S. in Exercise Science in the fall of 2006. This will be his first year coaching football. He isvery excited to grow and learn new things as he gains experience.

COACH MARK ORDWAY

Coach Mark Ordway is responsible for the linebackers and the punt return team. This is his 7th season as an assistant football coach at Helias. He also is the freshmen girls’ basketball coach. He teaches U.S. history and world history. He has served in the Missouri Army National Guard since 1997 and was deployed in Operation Iraqi Freedom. Previously, he served active duty in the U.S. Air Force, including a tour in Desert Shield/Desert Storm. Coach Ordway is an alumnus of Helias. He has a bachelor’s degree in education with a major in social studies from Lincoln University. He and his daughter reside in Jefferson City.

FRESHMAN:

COACH DAVE KEMNA
 |
Coach Kemna enters into his 6th year on the coaching staff. He spent 5 yrs previous coaching on the PAL level. He has stepped up to replace Coach Hake as the Head freshman coach and is in charge of the backfield for the freshman level.
Coach Kemna is a 1995 Graduate of Helias were he was apart of of a state semi-finalist team his senior year. Coach Kemna will receive a BA in History this year from Lincoln University. He is also the Asst. Girls Basketball Coach.

COACH ALAN LEPPER
Coach Lepper enters into his 3nd year of coaching football at Helias. Prior to coaching at Helias he spent 13 yrs coaching on the PAL level. His duties include wide-receivers and defensive backs, as well as special teams. Coach Lepper is a 1980 Graduate of Helias were he lettered in Football and Track. Alan and his wife Norma have been married for 23 years and have two children (Danielle 20, and Kelly 18) Coach Lepper is also the Asst. Freshman Girls Basketball Coach. |
